FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CineKink Announces Festival Awards, Gives Tribute to 'Kinsey'
NEW YORK, NY; Oct. 26, 2005 - Rounding out a run of record attendances, CineKink NYC announced awards in a range of categories during the film festival's gala closing ceremony held on Sunday, October 23, 2005.
CineKink Choice awards, which go to headliner works in competition during the festival, were determined by audience ballot at the close of each eligible work's screening. The 2005 CineKink Choice winners are 'Going Under' for Best Narrative Feature (Eric Werthman; starring Roger Rees, Geno Lechner and Miho Nikaido) and 'Pornology New York' for Best Documentary Feature (Michele Capozzi, 2005). An Honorable Mention also went to the documentary 'Original Pride: The Satyrs Motorcycle Club' (Scott Bloom, 2005).
CineKink Best awards, which go to short works in competition during the festival, were determined this year by jury ranking. The 2005 award winners are 'Moustache' for Best Narrative Short (Vicki Sugars, 2004), 'Pup' for Best Documentary (Antonia Kao, 2005), and, tied for the Best Experimental Short award, 'Harigata: The Alien Dildo That Turned Women Into Sex-Hungry Lesbos' (Szu Burgess, 2003) and 'Meat' (Joe Gallant, 2005).
This year's jurors, the festival's inaugural panel, included filmmaker Elizabeth Elson, winner of a CineKink Choice Award last year for her documentary 'Born in a Barn;' Thor Stockman, creator and presenter of the popular film clip program "S/M at the Movies: The Good, The Bad and The Ridiculous;" and Bill Woods, a film festival programmer and curator of the New Filmmakers series at Anthology Film Archives.
The final festival award, the annual CineKink Tribute, recognizing extraordinary depiction of kink in mainstream film and television, was presented to the film 'Kinsey,' for "its intimate and moving portrayal of the pioneering sexologist Dr. Alfred Kinsey and the profound impact his research has had on the ways we think about sex."
Released by Fox Searchlight Pictures in 2004, 'Kinsey' was written and directed by Bill Condon and stars Liam Neeson, Laura Linney, Peter Sarsgaard and Chris O'Donnell. Producer for the film was Gail Mutrux, along with executive producers Frances Ford Coppola, Kirk D'Amico, Michael Kuhn and Bobby Rock.
Honorable mentions for the CineKink Tribute went to the television series 'Desperate Housewives' (ABC) and 'Dr. 90210' (E!), and to the movie 'Wedding Crashers' (Fox Searchlight Pictures).
Making its third annual run October 18-23, 2005, CineKink NYC featured a specially selected program of films and videos that explore and celebrate a wide diversity of alternative sexuality. Billing itself as "the really alternative film festival," the event was presented by CineKink, an organization dedicated to the recognition and encouragement of kink-positive depictions in film and television, and topics touched upon included S/M, leather and fetish, roleplay, swinging, non-monogamy, polyamory and gender bending. With offerings drawn from both Hollywood and beyond, works presented at CineKink NYC ranged from documentary to drama, camp comedy to porn - and everything in between.
Selections from CineKink NYC will be featured in a traveling version of the festival, slated to appear in various cities throughout the coming year. CineKink's first visit will be to San Francisco, running November 3-5 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
