CineKink Announces February Dates, Gears Up for Fifth Annual Kinky Film Festival
NEW YORK, NY; January 3, 2008 - Scheduled for February 26-March 2, 2008, the fifth annual CineKink NYC will feature a specially-curated program of films and videos that celebrate and explore a wide diversity of sexuality. In addition to screenings, plans for the festival also include a short film competition, audience choice awards, presentations, parties and a gala kick-off fundraiser, all to be followed by a national showcase tour.
Billing itself as "the really alternative film festival," the event is presented by CineKink, an organization dedicated to the recognition and encouragement of sex-positive and kink-friendly depictions in film and television. With offerings drawn from both Hollywood and beyond, works presented at CineKink NYC will range from documentary to drama, camp comedy to hot porn and everything in between.
"We just wrapped up our call for entries and are looking forward to presenting another amazing line-up this year,” said Lisa Vandever, Co-Founder and Director of CineKink. "In these repressive times, it's so invigorating to work with filmmakers that approach sexuality, in all its variety, as a subject worthy of direct and honest exploration. It’s a real honor to share their creativity with our audiences.”
Last year's festival saw Audience Choice Award honors given to ‘Vice & Consent' (Howard Scott Warshaw) for Best Documentary Feature and to ‘O – The Power of Submission’ (Ernest Greene) for Best Narrative Feature. An Honorable Mention also went to the documentary ‘Webcam Girls' (Aerlynn Weissman).
In the shorts competition, juried festival awards went to 'guy101' (Ian Gouldstone) and tp ‘Hitchcocked’ (David Young), which tied for Best Narrative Short, along with 'Want' (Loree Erickson) for Best Documentary Short and ‘Filthy Food’ (T. Arthur Cottam) for Best Experimental Short. Honorable Best Mention awards went to 'Do You Take It…?' (Kirby Ferguson), ‘Honey & Bunny’ (Eva Midgley) and to 'Hot & Bothered: Feminist Pornography' (Becky Goldberg).
The CineKink Tribute, recognizing extraordinary depiction of kink in mainstream film and television, was presented to the film ‘Notorious Bettie Page,’ (Picturehouse/Mary Harron, 2006) for “its tender portrait of the infamous pin-up icon, Bettie Page, and the people who both created and consumed the fetish imagery for which she's known best.”
Honorable mentions for the CineKink Tribute went to the television series ‘The Montel Williams Show’ and ‘What About Brian?,’ and to the movie 'This Film Is Not Yet Rated.'
CineKink is currently accepting nominations for the next CineKink Tribute and the festival schedule for CineKink NYC will be announced at the end of January.
