FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CineKink Names Filmmaker/Curator Shine Louise Houston “CineKink Spotlight Artist for 2020”
NEW YORK, NY; December 9, 2020 – CineKink has announced that filmmaker Shine Louise Houston, an award-winning alumni of multiple editions of the festival, was named CineKink Spotlight Artist for 2020 at its recent awards ceremony.
Through her production company, Pink & White Productions, Houston creates adult entertainment that addresses the complexities of queer sexual desire. Taking inspiration from many different sources, Houston’s work is dedicated to producing sexy and exciting images that reflect today’s blurred gender lines and fluid sexualities.
The recently completed edition of the festival, CineKink 2020, featured Houston’s latest work, Camera and I, a quirky short that blurs the distinction between the fourth wall and subjective gaze, and has been described as “porn for cinephiles.” A previous CineKink Honorable Best Mention, Writing in Bed (starring Ingrid Mouth and porn funnyman Tommy Pistol) appeared in the festival’s Taste of CineKink program, and another from the prolific director, Tickle Takedown, was included in the Bring It! program, an annual showcase of recent adult cinema.
“We first screened Shine’s work in 2008, her ode to Rick James, Superfreak, and we’ve been honored to feature many of her cinematic offerings ever since,” said Lisa Vandever, CineKink co-founder and director. “In addition, Shine’s creation and curation of the streaming platform PinkLabel.TV has allowed adult filmmakers and festivals, such as CineKink, get our works out into the world. There is definitely artistry in that as well.”
“I want to thank everyone who puts on CineKink, and all of the viewers,” said Houston in a taped statement that playfully riffed on her film, Camera and I. “And everybody who’s ever helped on any production. Because film is not a solo project, it’s definitely a group effort. Without all that assistance, and help – and love – I am nothing.”
Originally scheduled for March, the virtual edition of CineKink 2020 streamed December 2-6 on PinkLabel.TV, and featured films and videos that celebrate and explore a wide diversity of sexuality. With offerings drawn from both the independent film world and the adult, works presented at the festival ranged from documentary to drama, comedy to experimental, slightly spicy to quite explicit – and everything in between.
