Quite alot of twisted knickers seems to be the result of a new video promoting European filmmaking. A rapid montage of sex scene clips builds and, er, climaxes to the slogan “Let’s come together.” Granted, the end image of an apparently male-only audience in rapt attention left us a wee bit skeeved, but we suspect much of the reported outrage was piqued by the inclusion of lovers that fall outside of strictly heterosexual and HWP parameters.

Or then again, maybe it’s just any excuse for nationalism. Reports The Guardian:

Godfrey Bloom of the Eurosceptic UK Independence Party described the film as “cheap, tawdry and tacky” and demanded to know the cost to European taxpayers. “You might say it’s appropriate for them to put out films like this,” he told the Sun newspaper. “Brussels has been screwing the UK for at least 30 years.”

We probably shouldn’t take comfort in this, but we’re finding it oddly uplifting to know that moralistic posturing isn’t restricted solely to this side of the pond.

Audience Choice Award – Best Documentary/CineKink 2005
Pornology New York
Directed by Michele Capozzi, 2005, 85 minutes.
A paean to the New York sexual underground, circa 1970-85, this engrossing documentary brings together four of its most colorful protagonists. Our guide to the action is Michele Capozzi, urban explorer and self-titled pornologist, with an up-close introduction to Neville Chambers, founder of the infamous porn-producing Fuck Factory; Lenny Waller, long-time front-man of the meat-packing district’s now-defunct Hellfire Club and renowned pornstar/mistress/shaman, Porsche Lynn – for a look back in time, an assessment of where we are today…and one very wild farewell party.

Free pizza and beer reception follows for all ticket holders!!

Pornology New York reinvents a time when anybody could go to Plato’s Retreat, the Hellfire, Mindshaft, The Vault, the Anvil, Le Trapeze and even Show World, to indulge in their dirtiest, wildest fantasies and fetishes.”

>Actually, she would. A whichever-wave feminist who instilled her values by both word and example, she would no doubt be thrilled to have her daughter creating the type of pornography that helps make the world a place where a woman’s right to determine and enjoy her own sexual pleasure is a taken-for-granted aspect of daily life, right up there with equal pay for an equal day.

Especially if it were award-winning pornography.

Well, maybe next year. Instead, we’ll take our mother’s birthday as the ideal time to belatedly congratulate the winners of Good for Her’s 2007 Feminist Porn Awards

And CineKinkster’s mom will likely be extra proud of Audacia Ray (see above), whose book Naked on the Internet: Hookups, Downloads and Cashing in on Internet Sexploration was just published (a movie and a book in one year?!?), an overview of the many ways that women are utilizing the Internet to explore and expand our sexuality.

Also grounded in feminism and drawing upon her own personal and professional experiences, Audacia talks to women about a range of interactions on the web, fro m those that exist solely in the online world to those that culminate in an actual meeting of the flesh. She considers the new audiences and markets that have opened up for adult products, with Internet commerce providing an anonymous and attractive alternative to the raincoat-infested – perceived or otherwise – brick-and-mortar outlet of yore. And she looks at some of the women who are using the web as a place to commoditize their own sexuality, both literally and in the representational sense as producers and purveyors of porn.

With a healthy dose of realism, Audacia paints an online world that is neither sensational menance nor utopian bliss. Detailing both potentials and pitfalls, she provides an engaging and balanced look at the particular vagaries – ie finding oneself oddly compelled to write in a somewhat stilted first-person plural voice? – of a slightly newish medium, along with the advances it might afford in realizing the progressive possibilities our mothers (literal and otherwise) put into motion.

Now, about that Equal Rights Amendment

>Actually, you can call us just about anything, so long as you pull our hair just the right way while you’re doing it. But Call Me Troy is the title of a new documentary from director Scott Bloom, whose Original Pride: The Satyrs Motorcycle Club was the centerpiece of our latest CineKink @ Pioneer screening.

A profile of gay rights activist and founder of Metropolitan Community Churches, Rev. Troy Perry, the work promises to be an important chronicle of the fight for sexual freedom and a moving tribute to a man who proclaimed that sexuality and religion – Christianity, even! – need not be separate.

The teaser trailer for Call Me Troy screened as part of our Pioneer program on Wednesday. Careful viewers will note an appearance by Skip Chasey (aka Master Skip), who was also a key subject in Pup (Best Documentary Short, CineKink 2005).

This documentary is a journey back to that illustrious start, and then a trip of the present-day, a visit with the group at their annual outing in a remote Northern California location. Plays with the short, PISSIES NOT SISSIES, a first-hand account of the jovial goings-on in the men’s room at a renowned international leather contest. (Charles Lum, 2005, USA, 14 minutes)

>Sorta, especially if it’s in the form of a fleeting expletive. So said a federal appeals panel as it struck down Federal Communication Commission policies that had, in recent years, taken a tougher stance on so-called obscenties spoken on broadcast television and radio.

The challenge to the FCC indecency fines related specifically to utterances by such celebrity luminaries as Bono, Cher and Nicole Richie appearing on live awards broadcasts, generally involving variations on your basic “f-word” theme.

Reversing decades of a more lenient policy, the commission had found that the mere utterance of certain words implied that sexual or excretory acts were carried out and therefore violated the indecency rules.

But the judges said vulgar words are just as often used out of frustration or excitement, and not to convey any broader obscene meaning. “In recent times even the top leaders of our government have used variants of these expletives in a manner that no reasonable person would believe referenced sexual or excretory organs or activities.”

As we sit back and ponder what might constitute a “reasonable person,” we eagerly anticipate what ruling might soon come down on the matter of another celebrity’s fleeting, bare nipple.

>Over at Sugarbank, they’re pulled together an entertaining montage of fondly satirical send-ups of that time-honored classic, the sex education video. Among them you’ll find the scene from Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life, in which bored schoolboys grudgingly recount various methods of foreplay and look on as headmaster John Cleese demonstrates sex with his wife.

Also included is this disturbingly erotic animation, What the Heck is Happening to My Genitals?, featuring Amy Sedaris and her puberty pals:
