Here’s to a new year full of precisely what you want … Happy 2011!
Come, they told him…
So glad that somebody finally put those lyrics to obvious and very good use!
Just in time for Christmas, CineKink alumnus Bryan Jackson give us Little Taiko Boy リトル太鼓ボーイ, mixing cultures and holiday traditions to present a shiny and colorful take on wrapping gifts for a, um, loved one.
Pa-rum-pum-pum-pum?
A holiday reprieve!
A bit of a break for filmmakers planning to submit works for CineKink 2011 … in keeping with the holiday mindset, we’re letting our next postmark deadline slide until after the weekend.
If you’re submitting via Withoutabox, you’ll still need to get your info into their system before midnight on Friday (11/26). But whichever way you submit, you can hold off shipping until Monday.
Granted, that’s not a huge chunk of time, but it should allow you to maintain an appropriate level of holiday slack before snapping to attention, double-checking those final edits, getting your screening DVDs burned and dropping your package into the mail after the festivities have subsided.
You’re welcome… now go enjoy your turkey!
Audience award-winner ‘S&M Judge’ to open CineKink: Chicago
Winner of the Audience Choice Award for Best Narrative Feature at CineKink NYC/2010, S&M Judge will be the centerpiece for the opening night of CineKink: Chicago, running November 19-20 at the Leather Archives and Museum.
Directed by Flemish filmmaker Erik Lamens and based on a celebrated Belgian incident, the film tells of a respected judge who, desperate to save his marriage, reluctantly gives in to fulfilling the masochistic desires his wife has been hiding from him for decades. Initially shocked at her revelation, his love helps him overcome his inhibitions, and they begin to enjoy a secret life in the city’s underground S/M scene. But when the two are caught up in a police sting, his arrest and trial cause a national scandal. While their activities have been purely consensual, the court views his participation as criminal, putting his job, reputation and family life in jeopardy.
S&M Judge will screen on Friday, November 19th, 8:00 pm, and will be followed by an opening reception made possible by the support of Shibaricon.
CineKink: Chicago will continue the next day, with matinee screenings beginning at 2 pm, and will conclude with ‘The Best of CineKink/2010,’ a program of the year’s award-winning shorts, scheduled for 8:30 pm on Saturday.
More info on the Chicago screenings is available here – or you can purchase advance tickets directly via EventBrite.
Scarleteen: Straight talk for those “burgeoning desires”
I didn’t appreciate it then, but I had a rather charmed growing-up, sexually-speaking.
I was blessed with parents who not only—anomaly of the 1970s—weren’t divorced, but who clearly loved, respected and desired each other. While I didn’t always exhibit a full modicum of common sense in my high-school wanderings and associations, I always made it home safely from my adventures, unscathed and just under curfew. And though my experiences were far less frequent and extensive than I might have liked at the time, those I was able to stumble upon were ones where I felt like an active, if slightly-out-of-my-realm agent, fully of my consent and intent and, generally, ones that left me wanting another go and even more as a result.
Happily, my only lingering scars from the time are a perhaps too-easily triggered association of sexual forays with several pop-culture markers of the era. A lingering kiss and the smell of freshly-cut grass can still evoke a momentary thought of Aqua Velva aftershave, while I lost my virginity (for the second time) to the strains of My Sharona and (for the third and, because I decided it was actually pleasurable enough to finally count, real time) shortly after a delightful make-out session enjoyed during The Warriors. (On one of those new-fangled home video players!)
Still, even given the presence of liberal, open-minded parents and a copy of The Joy of Sex at my pilfering reach, I have to wonder how much better I might have fared with Scarleteen at my disposal. Sure, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret clued me in to the whole period thing, so I wasn’t terribly alarmed when it actually transpired—and I knew all about burgeoning desires from a yellowing copy of Lady Chatterley’s Lover found on the top bookshelf.
But how would it have been to be able to post to sympathetic peers and experts the questions I felt too “weird” to bring to my mother? Or to research sexual health worries in a more user-friendly (and less terrifying!) venue than my dad’s Merck Manual? Or even to solicit opinions possibly counter to the wrinkled nose and “ewwww!” provoked in a high school friend by the mere mention of slightly, possibly considering a blow job?
We want the sexual choices young people make to be well-informed choices. We feel belying judgment, affording respect and furnishing teens with the facts and context they feel they need, whether or not they are or intend to be sexually active, supports them in learning to best make and own their own choices and lives. …Whether Scarleteen is a young person’s only source of sex education, or whether we play but one part, we want to do what we can to provide young people with the accessible sexuality information, support and discussion they want and need now, and may very well benefit from for a lifetime.
Because Scarleteen doesn’t rely on government funding for their existence, they’re able to offer a comprehensive spectrum of information and create a safe, inclusive space for exploration and discovery—one in which abstinence might be one answer, though, pragmatically, not the only prescribed possibility open to discussion.
And also because Scarleteen doesn’t rely on government funding for their existence, they need our support in continuing to advise and to thrive.
As part of Scarleteen’s current blogathon and fundraising drive, I’ll be making a financial contribution today. Please won’t you do the same?!

We’re taking back Washington!
Well, at least for a couple of days…
And you can join us as CineKink — “the kinky film festival” — brings its annual tour to Washington, DC on Friday-Saturday, November 12-13, 2010.
With screenings to be held at the The Crucible, CineKink: DC will offer a specially-curated program of films and videos that celebrate and explore a wide and exciting world of sexual diversity, with works ranging from documentary to drama, comedy to experimental, mildly spicy to quite explicit – and everything in between. And each night will also feature a sizzling play-party that continues upon the, er, theme of the evening’s film and video selections.
FRIDAY
The festivities kick off at 8 PM with the Best of CineKink, featuring a mix of award-winning shorts deemed the year’s best during the festival’s latest annual run at CineKink NYC.
Afterwards, for those who desire, stick around for a sexy play party!
SATURDAY
On Saturday at 6 PM the film shorts program Yes, Mistress asks (and sometimes answers!) the question: “How may I be of service?”
At 8 PM, Modern Love is Automatic is the darkly comic tale of an apathetic nurse who moonlights as a dominatrix, her aspiring model roommate, and the sad, strange world in which they live. Director Zack Clark, a DC-native, and actress Melodie Sisk, will be on hand for a post-screening Q&A about the film, which was shot locally.
And then, if you dare, join us for a BDSM play party!

Mulling all of the perceived negativity in this year’s election cycle, we began thinking back to kinder, gentler times…
Here the CineKink Veterans for Truth take us back to 2004:
And remember when we thought Sarah Palin might just be a passing sensation?
Alrighty, then. Everybody off to the voting booth!
Submit to CineKink!
CineKink NYC–“the kinky film festival”–is seeking films and videos, of any length and genre, that explore and celebrate the wide diversity of sexuality. Dedicated to the recognition and encouragement of sex-positive and kink-friendly depictions in film and television, we’re looking to blur some boundaries and will be considering offerings drawn from both Hollywood and beyond, with works ranging from documentary to drama, camp comedy to hot porn, mildly spicy to quite explicit–and everything in between.
Cutting across orientations, topics covered at CineKink have included – but are by no means limited to – BDSM, leather and fetish, swinging, non-monogamy and polyamory, roleplay and gender bending, sex work and sex geekery. Basically, as long as it involves consenting adults, just about anything celebrating sex as a right of self expression is fair game.
Scheduled for its eight annual appearance March 1-6, 2011, the specially-curated CineKink NYC will also feature a short film competition, audience choice awards, a special adult entertainment showcase, presentations, parties and a gala kick-off, with a national screening tour to follow.
Discounted, early-bird entries have a post-marked deadline of November 5th, while the standard deadline is November 26th and the final deadline is December 10th.

What happens in Vegas…
Yeah, you’ve heard that one. What happens in Vegas gets plastered all over the Internet! And so it was with all (well, many) of the exploits that went down at CineKink: Las Vegas.
First off, we were graced with a truly gratififying amount of insightful and generally positive press attention for the kick-off to our national tour:
Examiner/Sex & Relationships: Sexy Films: CineKink Film Festival comes to Sin City
Examiner/Modern Love: Interview with founder of CineKink: Exploring the world of sexual diversity
Las Vegas Weekly: Get cinekinky
Las Vegas Sun: CineKink film festival brings smart sexuality to Las Vegas
Las Vegas Review-Journal: What’s Hot This Weekend
Las Vegas Weekly: Getting tied up with CineKink
Las Vegas Weekly: Kink n’ Grind
While the tour circuit can get a little lonely, this trip we had some delightful company along, Diva and Tess from Tied Up Events, to help get the trouble started: Day One – Pillow Fight with Nina Hartley and Day Two – Let the Films Begin!
And, of the CineKink filmmakers, panelists and performers who graced us with their presence in Sin City, including Alicyn Packard (The Pinky Song), Wes Hurley and Marc Kennison/aka Waxie (Waxie Moon), sexologist Carol Queen and UNLV Professor Lynn Comella, Julie King and Jessica Keck (Libidoland) kept themselves busy documenting what seemed like every waking moment of their time there. Here are their engaging accounts of Day #1, Day #2, Day #3 and, phew! Day #4.
And they were also busy with the video camera!
(More pics here!)
Sniff, we’ll miss you, ladies … and all who came out for the festivities! Many thanks to you all, and also to Onyx Theatre, Erotic Heritage Museum and to our CineKink 2010 tour sponsors B-Side Entertainment, Make Love Not Porn, National Coalition for Sexual Freedom, njoy and Tied Up Events for their help in making our visit possible!
